Cesar Gracie would like to invite you to participate in the 9th annual Gracie Open to be held on Saturday, Oct 10th, 2009. The tournament will be held at the Kezar Pavilion, 755 Stanyan St. San Francisco, CA 94117 at 10:00 am (weigh-ins will be from 8AM-10AM the day of the tournament). Click for Map There will be a gi as well as a gi-less division. Entrance fee is as follows:
  • Adult men and women for one competition(Gi or Gi-less) for $60 (or $85 for both)
  • Children under 16 will pay $40 for each competition ($55 for both)
Spectators will pay $10, children under 9 years old are free (must be accompanied by an adult). Event T-shirts will be included with paid registration. Full details and online registration below.

Competition Requirements

Gi Division
  • Clean Gi
  • Sleeves are to be no shorter than 4" from wrist
  • Four finger cuff clearance
  • Signed waiver
  • Entrance fee to be paid BEFORE competition begins
Gi-less Division
  • T-shirt or rashgaurd
  • Shorts
  • Wrestling shoes/head gear optional
  • Signed waiver
  • Entrance fee to be paid BEFORE competition begins

If both competitors are tied in points and advantage points at the end of regulation time, it will be left up to the referee to award the match.

Competition Rules/Conduct

  • All competitors will bow or shake hands prior to their match.
  • Competitors in gi division will compete with regulation gi's only.
    • Regulation is four fingers between wrist and sleeve of gi.
    • No tears in gi which will continue to tear.
  • Competitors will observe and follow all of the referees instructions.
  • Competitors will bow or shake hands after their match.
Illegal holds/actions
  • Heel hooks, knee bars and toe holds (gi division)
    • Knee bars and toe holds WILL be allowed in gi-less, advanced division and gi black belt division ONLY. Heel hooks will only be allowed in the advanced gi-less division.
  • Digit manipulation
  • Punching
  • Kicking
  • When in opponents gaurd: Picking him up and slamming to ground


Point Deductions/Disqualification
  • Violation of the above mentioned rules.
  • Un-sportsman like activity - i.e. Use of profanity, profane gestures, argumentative or belligerent behavior directed towards the referee, spectators, opponants or tournament organizers.
  • Striking techniques.
  • Application of illegal holds as mentioned above.
  • Purposefully trying to evade contact or leave the contest area during a match.
  • Stalling after a verbal warning.
  • Lifting and throwing an opponant while passing gaurd.
  • Failure to release submission hold after opponant taps out.

Awards

  • Medals will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each weight category
  • Trophies will also be awarded to the most technical Jiu-Jitsu fighter of each division
